The Lord has sharpened His Scripture sword and is cutting away the “fluff” in my life. When I say “fluff”, I’m talking about the things that so easily distract (stop) us from discovering His deep truths!
Now, you may be saying, “What deep truths are you talking about Mark?” Thanks for asking. The Scripture the Lord so wonderfully opened up to me really lays it out! In James 1:22, it says, “But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” THOSE ARE ACTION WORDS!!!
When we first met Jesus and were born-again, we started going to church regularly, listening to our Pastor teach, and reading our Bibles. ALL GREAT THINGS! But, as we grow (at least we’re supposed to), we must go higher. Here’s where the Word of God meets the deep places in the Believer in Jesus! (I pray)
James 1:23-24 says, “For if you listen to the word and don't obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like”.
Reading a Scripture because it’s what you’re supposed to do, instead of wanting to do it is a ”glance.” I’ve done it! The clock is set, and we’re going to get that Bible reading time in and check the finished box. Done! Yes, reading Scripture is very important, but the heart and mindset while doing it is important also. I want the Holy Spirit to take me on a guided tour! Amen?
Okay, so let’s finish this.
Notice in this verse below “glancing” turns into “looking carefully”
“But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.” [James 1:25]
LOOK, DO and REMEMBER = BLESSED!
